A report from the Cumberland Times of Cumberland, Maryland carries information regarding two misdemeanor charges filled against a Frostburg State University student who was supposedly heard to make threats of “shooting up the school” while playing Call of Duty 4 over Xbox Live as stated in court documents related to the case. FSU student Allieu Shaw’s words were reported to the Frostburg Police Department by another player who was playing in the same Call of Duty 4 multiplayer session at the time Shaw made his apparent threat. Shaw was tracked to his dorm room in Annapolis Hall by members of the Frostburg police force who were working in cooperation with Microsoft and Xbox Live by following the Internet Provider Address to Shaw’s dorm room.
A search of Shaw’s room, conducted Tuesday, revealed no weapons of any sort in the student’s room and, according to further information released by the court, Shaw told police personnel at the time of his arrest that "he was joking and had no intention of following through with the threats.” If the court finds Shaw guilty the result could lead to one year of jail time, a $5,000 dollar fine, or both due to charges of “disrupting school operations” that have been filed against him.
