Engadget has posted information that may prove that Apple will again attempt to enter the gaming industry. Gamers may remember the computer company’s first attempt at a video game console, the Pippin. The system had superior technology but ultimately failed due to it’s high price and the popularity of it’s competition. Apparently Apple has applied for trademark protection on an unknown gaming device. It’s not specific on what kind of device, it could either be handheld or a console. However, due to the company recently filing a patent for a touch screen gaming device, they would most likely be working on a handheld. Some gamers believe that this just might be to protect games to be released on the iPod touch and the iPhone, but others are waiting to see how the company would do in the modern gaming industry. If anything more on this filing surfaces, TGR will be the place for everything you want and need to know.
UPDATE: Apparently Apple currently has a job listing on their site for game designers and producers.
