Earlier today, Harmonix announced that the first full album available to download for Rock Band will be Judas Priest’s 1982 classic Screaming for Vengeance. The album will become available in the Rock Band music store on April 22nd for Xbox 360 owners and April 24th for PS3 owners. The album will sell for $14.99, or players can purchase individual songs for $1.99. Furthermore, this album release will be followed by two more: The Cars’ debut self-titled album will release in May, and The Pixies’ Doolittle will release in June.

Every track available for download will be the original master recording. The tracks on Screaming for Vengeance are:

The Hellion/Electric Eye
Riding on the Wind
Bloodstone
(Take These) Chains
Pain and Pleasure
Screaming for Vengeance
You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’
Fever
Devil’s Child

Kotaku.com had the opportunity to ask Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos a few questions about the game. Among the highlights from Rigopulos:

  • Harmonix is still working closely with The Who, and they will have an announcement soon that Rigopulos thinks “people will be pretty happy about.” He went on to state that certain artists will warrant more than just an album, and some may even have their entire catalogue released through the game.
  • There will not be a schedule for album releases, but Harmonix does want to release them as regularly as possible.
Harmonix has many full albums in development right now.
  • $14.99 is NOT the standard album price; rather, albums will be priced based on the number of tracks they contain.
  • Harmonix is not ruling out Greatest Hits albums. Some artists have even approached the company about creating a greatest hits compilation just for the game.
  • To date, there have been over 8 million song downloads for Rock Band.

Harmonix continues to impress with their dedication to new content for the game. Keep your internets set on TheGameReviews.com for more information on Rock Band.
