In the latest Bungie Weekly Update, Frank O’Connor discussed the recent news of an internal Halo development team being formed at Microsoft. The beginning of the update goes into describing how Bungie will continue to stay involved with Peter Jackson’s Halo project, despite there being an internal team at MS. They explain that like with Halo Wars, just because Bungie isn’t at the helm, doesn’t mean they aren’t on board the ship, providing some direction. It is their universe after all.

The really interesting part came when good old Frank laid a few tantalizing tidbits for the future, providing absolutely no concrete details, making them even more potent fanboy fodder. Frank assured the community that Bungie has definitely not retired since completing the final episode of the Halo trilogy, saying: “We’re damn busy ourselves with a variety of projects underway within the studio including one that you’ll be hearing more about in the very near future.” Looking towards the long term future of the company, Frank brought up another super secret project, but noted that it will be some time before any details emerge.

The mentioning of any secret endeavors at Bungie probably resonates with those of you that have read the recent rumor ignited by EGM. The speculation states that the original Halo developer is working on a third person shooter set in the same universe during the initial battles between human and covenant forces. Hopefully, by “very near future” Frank means E3 or sooner, so the rumors can be dispelled and Bungie’s true plans revealed.
